WAYNE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- A south central Iowa man dies in a head-on collision Wednesday afternoon.

The Iowa State Patrol said it happened about 12:40 p.m. on Highway 2 in Wayne County, about 13 miles west of Centerville.

The patrol said 55-year-old Jeffrey Bowen of Centerville was eastbound on Highway 2 and crossed the center line into the westbound lane. A 47-year-old female Plano resident was driving an SUV westbound and tried to avoid Bowen's car by steering left. Bowen then tried to steer back into the eastbound lane and started to skid. The two vehicles collided head-on, on the passenger side of each vehicle.

Bowen died as a result of the crash. There were no other injuries reported.
