OUR TOWN: Quasqueton: a celebration 175 years in the making

QUASQUETON, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Quasqueton is celebrating 175 years of existence.

TV9 chose the Buchanan County town as Our Town on Friday, August 18. On that evening, the community held a fish fry, street dance and co-ed softball game to honor the anniversary. It had a great turn out with people coming from near and far to celebrate Quasky's history.

Quasqueton is one of the oldest towns in Iowa. At 554 people, the town may be small, but it has a loyal population.

"I think that's important for the celebration. Something for them to come back to, so they can do things as they see other people that they knew and share those old experiences as they share new ones with them," Corrine Love, Quasqueton Historical Society President, said.

The fun continues Saturday with a parade at 10 a.m.; horse shoe, volleyball, bags and softball tournaments; and fireworks at dusk.
