NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- A Wednesday afternoon fire in North Liberty is being blamed on a 5-year-old playing with a lighter.

Captain Chris Kochanny says firefighters were called to 149 Golfview Court at around 12:08 p.m. Wednesday for a report of smoke coming from the rear of the home.

Kochanny says the fire was started by a 5-year-old playing with a lighter in a back bedroom. There were no working smoke detectors in the home.

Those inside the home made it out safely. No firefighters were injured.

Kocahnny says that while a damage estimate is not available, the home is likely a total loss.
