DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) India Independence Day is coming up on Tuesday, but people in Dubuque celebrated Saturday.
People enjoy India Independence Day celebration at Steeple Square in Dubuque on Saturday, August 12.
Over 200 people came out to Steeple Square to enjoy the celebration, hosted by the Multicultural Family Center.
There was dancing, food, henna tattoos and Hindi writing.
Organizers gave a brief history lesson on India's past and how the country achieved their independence.
Yoga and meditation lessons were also given.
This is the fourth year of the event, and organizer Sanjeev Pal says it grows each year.
"People started loving it you know because one is the food and the other one is people wanted to know what India is."
Organizers hope to hold the celebration again next year and that even more people will come.
They want to say thanks to the volunteers and donors who make the event possible.
