WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Actor, Mark Wahlberg, says he wanted to honor the officers who died in ambush attacks near Des Moines and other officers around the country in a new movie.

Police say Scott Greene killed Urbandale Officer Justin Martin and Des Moines Police Sergeant Tony Beminio in November.

Wahlberg held a private screening of the movie in West Des Moines and invited officers from three different cities to attend.

"We lost two police officers and this movie is a tribute to law enforcement and to anybody who commits to serving their community and their country," said Wahlberg.

"Patriots Day" tells the story of the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing from the perspective of first responders. Wahlberg plays a Boston police sergeant in the film. Iowa native, Michelle Monaghan, plays his wife.

"Patriots Day" opens nationwide on Friday.
