AMES, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- The man police say was behind the wheel when a CyRide bus hit and killed an Iowa State student last year has pleaded not guilty.

Ames police have accused 23-year-old Benjamin Clague in the death of Emmalee Jacobs on December 14. Police said Clague was driving the bus that hit the 18-year-old Jacobs at the intersection of Lincoln Way and Ash Avenue.

She was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

Last month, Clague was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and failure to obey a traffic control device.

Clague's lawyer submitted a written plea Monday, and a judge has scheduled his jury trial to begin April 5.
