ORIGINAL: County birth records indicate the Las Vegas gunman was born in Clinton, Iowa.

Stephen Craig Paddock killed 58 people and wounded more than 500 at an outdoor concert in Las Vegas, Nevada Sunday night.

A birth record on file with the Clinton County Recorder’s office shows Paddock was born on April 9, 1953, at what was then Jane Lamb Hospital, which became part of the current Mercy Hospital system in Clinton in 1989.

The record shows Paddock’s father, Patrick Benjamin Paddock, who went by Benjamin, was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and his mother, Delores Irene Hudson, was born in Nauvoo, Illinois.

The Paddock family at the time lived in the 300 block of 16th Avenue South in Clinton, and Benjamin Paddock worked as a salesman.

Multiple details on the birth record, including Stephen Paddock’s middle name and date of birth, match information released by investigators in Nevada.

Various media reports identify father Benjamin Paddock as a bank robber who at one time was on the FBI’s Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.

It is not clear how long Stephen Paddock remained in Clinton after his birth as media reports indicate he grew up largely in Tucson, Arizona and Sun Valley, California.

KWQC was first to report this story and will continue to update it.
