IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9)- Johnson County has rolled out a new tool to fight hunger in the community.
This month the county started the its new mobile food pantry program. The mobile pantry will be held once monthly at three sites in the community that are considered "food deserts."
The sites are the Forest View Mobile Home Park, Coles Mobile Home Park and Breckenridge Estates. Officials said the creation of the mobile food pantry stems from concerns about transportation to the area's food bank.
The program, which was launched by the Crisis Center of Johnson County, was funded by the Johnson County Board of Supervisors. The board committed $30,000 for the project.
