JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- One of the chief critics of Secretary of State Paul Pate's voter ID bill could run against him.
Johnson County Auditor Travis Weipert, a Democrat, says he's forming an exploratory committee for Secretary of State. He said he's been meeting with auditors and said new leadership is needed.
Weipert has repeatedly criticized the Voter ID bill that's under consideration in the statehouse. The bill would require people to show identification before voting.
Supporters say it would cut down on voter fraud.
But critics, like Weipert, say such a problem doesn't exist.
