CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- As Irma came off the Cuban coastline and back into the warm Atlantic Ocean waters, she regain energy. Enough so, that she strengthened into a Category 4 storm.
Hurricane Irma officially made landfall early this morning as a category 4 storm over the Florida Keys. Wind gusts reached over 100 mph just as expected. Millions are left without power across southern Florida and more are expected to feel the wrath of Irma throughout the upcoming days.
As for us here in eastern Iowa, we’re quiet thanks to Irma locking all the moister to the southeast and high pressure nearby allowing for a southeast wind. We’ll basically have a copy and paste scenario for the next week.
