Honduran sentenced to prison for returning to U.S. following deportations

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- A federal judge on Monday sentenced a Honduran man to one year in federal prison for returning to the U.S. following two previous deportations.

38-year-old Geovany Rodriguez-Carrasco pleaded guilty in December to illegal reentry of a removed alien after a felony conviction. He admitted having been deported in August 2013. Rodriguez-Carrasco was convicted in Texas in 2004 for illegal reentry to the U.S. and in Iowa in July 2013 for illegal reentry of a femoved alien.

Rodriguez-Carrasco is a citizen of Honduras who had been living in Cedar Rapids.

The U.S. Marshals are holding Rodriguez-Carrasco until he can be transported to a federal prison.
