CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) You may have heard at one point that doctors recommend low levels of salt for your diet.
A new therapy trend is using salt in a different way to relieve symptoms of certain conditions.
And that therapy became life changing for one Cedar Rapids woman.
June Rainbow was on her way to New York about a year and a half ago.
But she wasn't looking forward to traveling.
"I have a hard time sometimes when I fly with my Eustachian tubes and I also had a little sinus infection,” says Rainbow.
Rainbow found out the hotel she was staying at offered something called "Halotherapy."
She was a little skeptical at first, but she decided to give it a try and enter the salt cave.
"I was actually feeling it while I was breathing and I was becoming convinced during that time, like this is great, this is wonderful and when I left I felt so relaxed and I just felt so much better ,” says Rainbow.
Now Cedar Rapids will soon be getting its first business to offer Halotherapy.
“Halotherapy is the use of trying to mimic a salt mine or cave and since we don't have any in Cedar Rapids, so it uses a Halo generator to crush salt into an aerosol that will vent into the room and consume the air,” says Josh Giles, owner of Total Rejuvenation.
Josh Giles says he wanted to bring Halotherapy here because it's beneficial to a lot of different medical conditions.
"For the skin conditions it can help with eczema, acne, lupus, you know dry skin, rashes, hives, a couple which I have myself which has really made me want to start looking into it,” says Giles.
And Total Rejuvenation says Halo Therapy is not a cure for serious illnesses, but instead it's a way to help symptoms with respiratory and skin conditions.
Total Rejuvenation will open in Cedar Rapids sometime at the end of February or early March and they’ll also offer other services like Cryo and Flotation therapy.
