CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- The Cedar Rapids Granny Basketball League smiled brighter Monday with a visit from the Harlem Globetrotters.
El Gato Mendez played a friendly game of six-on-six with the two teams, the Sizzlers and the Late Bloomers. The granny basketball league taught El Gato their rules and enjoyed a game of fun. He showed the women some of his dazzling ball handling skills and taught them some tricks of their own.
The Harlem Globetrotters have pledged to spread 100 million smiles around the world in the next 10 years with acts of kindness.
Jane Suiter, Granny Basketball League Executive Director, said they also help give back to the community.
"We call it a gentle game, so that's why we have no running and no jumping," she said. "Our main thing is to have fundraisers and help the local community."
The Harlem Globetrotters will have a family show at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids on April 5.
