CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Marcus Lemonis responded to TV9's Twitter message late on October 11.
"We are possibly opening but at old location not the new one that was built," Lemonis said.
Skogman Realty Commercial's website lists the old location for lease for $7.95/SqFt. The lot is 13.86 acres.
Perhaps there is still hope for Gander Mountain/Camping World fans in eastern Iowa.
All signs, or a lack of signs, makes it appear the future of the Cedar Rapids Gander Mountain store on Blairs Ferry Road NE is bleak.
Drive by the store at 1215 Blairs Ferry Road NE and you will see all the Gander Mountain signage that was once in place on the brand new building has now been removed.
After reaching out to Marcus Lemonis, CEO of Gander Mountain/Camping World, and to Hunter Companies, deed holders to the property, and not hearing back, KCRG-TV9 did some investigating a discovered some interesting information.
On the Hunter Companies website, under the "Properties For Sale and For Lease" section, you will find a couple of documents related to the property.
The first is a listing of the properties at Northtowne Market. Lot 13 is listed as the "Former Gander Mountain Building". That building is listed as for sale or lease.
The second document is an overhead rendering of the property. The building that was once supposed to house the Gander Mountain store is now listed on the drawing as "Big Box Retail, 52,000 SF, 2 Docks". Other buildings on the map have the retail locations that occupy those spaces listed on the map.
Another interesting find on the map is Lot 7 is now listed as an auto dealership and Lot 8 is listed as a convenience store.
Several phone calls to Hunter Companies have yet to be returned.
Marcus Lemonis, the CEO of Gander Mountain/Camping World, told KCRG-TV9 earlier this year that he expected the store to open in the new location in the fall of this year. He has also not responded to repeated requests from KCRG-TV9 for updates.
The Gander Mountain store was originally located off of Edgewood Road SW, but closed early this summer in anticipation of moving to the larger store.
Stay with KCRG-TV9 for updates as they become available.
