CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) – The City of Cedar Rapids said homeowners still using sandbags from last year’s flood, will need to put them curbside by January 30th or face a fine.
This week, the city is mailing 130 letters to homeowners within the flood zone who still have multiple sandbags. They are asked to put those sandbags on the curb by the deadline. That way the city can pick them up in February. If homeowners miss that date, they will be fined.
For those who are unable to move their sandbags, the city is planning to work with local organizations and volunteers to assist those who need help. Officials have not determined the amount of the fee charged for missing the pickup date.
