Cedar Rapids neighborhood experiences garage door malfunctions

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) - A neighborhood in Cedar Rapids is dealing with something a little strange.

Over the past few days a neighborhood on the Northwest side has had problems with garage doors not opening or closing. Multiple houses in the neighborhood were reporting the same problems.

One woman even had to have a garage door company help her break into her own home because she didn't have her house key with her.

The neighbors called every company they could think of to try to find a solution to the problem.

Their theory is that some kind of electronic may be jamming the signal.

Mediacom drove around the neighborhood Friday to see if it could find what it calls a "leak." They have technology inside the truck that detects leaks.

One mans door finally started working again Friday afternoon but he says he still wants to know what it is.

"Something caused it because it wouldn't be that many homes and have the issue and then to have it automatically fixed it's a big mystery," Gary Park said.

Mediacom told TV9 that it didn't find any leaks. Alliant Energy said its technology would not interfere with garage doors.
