UPDATE: CRPD investigating fatal crash on city's southeast side

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Authorities say the driver of the truck, Markwell, was ejected from the vehicle.

There were no other passengers in the pickup and no other cars were involved in the accident.

The family of a Cedar Rapids teen says he was the victim of a fatal crash on the city's southeast side, Saturday morning.

Jacob Markwell's fiancée tells TV9 the 18-year-old died after his truck rolled in the 2300 block of Otis Road SE.

Authorities responded to the single-vehicle incident around 1:00 p.m. The initial report was for a pickup on its roof and a person in the road.

"Officers responded and found a single vehicle accident involving a Dodge pickup," said Sgt. Graham Campshure in a news release. "One person was involved and sustained life-threatening injuries."

Cedar Rapids police are investigating a "serious" crash on the city's southeast side.

Authorities told TV9 they responded to the single-vehicle incident near 2300 Otis Road SE around 1:00 p.m. The initial report was for a pickup on its roof and a person on the road.

"Officers responded and found a single vehicle accident involving a Dodge pickup," said Sgt. Graham Campshure in a news release. "One person was involved and sustained life-threatening injuries."

Campshure said he couldn't release further details due to the investigation being ongoing.
