DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) -- A controversial video has ended Republican Bill Dix’s career in the Statehouse.

Dix resigned Monday as Senate majority leader and as a state senator after a video posted on the political blog Iowa Starting Line showed him kissing a lobbyist.

The video was taken March 1 at Waveland Tap on University Avenue in Des Moines and has since sent shock waves through Iowa's political world.

“We're all disappointed, and my prayers go out to Sen. Dix and his family,” said Sen. Brad Zaun, R-Urbandale.

State Sen. Rob Hogg confirmed to KCCI that the lobbyist in the video is Lindsey McCune.
