Benton Co. Chief Deputy dies from heart attack

BENTON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- The Benton County Sheriff's Office this week is remembering its chief deputy.

Michael Ferguson died early Monday morning from a heart attack. He was 62 and a Vinton native.

Ferguson had been with the Benton County Sheriff's Office for the past 40 years. He'd been the county's chief deputy and jail administrator for more than a decade.

His funeral will be at 1 pm. Saturday, May 19 at Vinton-Shellsburg High School.
