CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Cedar Rapids fire investigators said fireworks caused a 2-alarm fire that destroyed a garage and heavily damaged a house Monday night.

It happened about 6:40 p.m. at 3455 Dalewood Avenue Southeast. Fire crews arrived to find the garage fully engulfed in flames, which had spread to the attic and second floor of the home.
Firefighters entered the house and found heavy fire in the attic and 2nd floor. The crews were pulled out of the house until the fire could be brought under control from outside.
Crews then went back into the home and put out the remaining fire.
The two adults, two children, and pets who lived in the home got out safely.
Because of extensive fire, smoke, and water damage, the family was not able to return to the house Monday night.

The homeowner and pets were able to get out safely.
Authorities are still investigating the cause.
