CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- For the fourth year some area churches got together in Cedar Rapids to put on a free event for the community. It is called the Love Thy Neighbor event and it was held Saturday in Redmond Park.

"There's great fellowship," said Pastor Debra Letcher, from New Bethel Church.

Those who took part enjoyed food and games. Volunteers also gave out free backpacks and other supplies to kids. Organizers say the event gets bigger and bigger every year.

"It has gotten bigger," said organizer, Pastor Tim Pridgeon. "We do it simply because God is love and because he's in it, it just continues to take on energy."

Organizer Tim Pridgeon is running for Mayor in Cedar Rapids.
