Half of Iowa Row Crops Planted

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG-TV9 News) -- About four days were good for fieldwork last week according to the Iowa Crop Progress report and farmers used it to get crops in the ground.

Growers planted 25 percent of the corn crop in that time, now at 65 percent done. Southern areas of Iowa are more than 80 percent planted, while North Central Iowa is only about a fourth of the way done. Of the corn planted, 26 percent has already emerged.

Soybean producers planted about 21 percent of the crop last week, now at 33 percent complete. Southern areas of the state are about halfway done, while North Central Iowa has only three percent of beans planted. Five percent of soybeans have emerged, about five days behind the average.

And pasture conditions jumped about 10 percent from last week, now at 49 percent good to excellent.
