Adoptive parents of teen who starved to death now face murder charges

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- The adoptive parents of a 16-year-old central Iowa girl who died of malnutrition are now facing first-degree murder charges, according to court documents.

Prosecutors accuse Marc and Misty Ray of murdering Sabrina, who weighed less than 90 pounds when authorities found her body in the Ray's home back in May.

Marc and Misty Ray are also charged with child endangerment resulting in death.

Sabrina's adoptive grandmother, cousin, and brother are also charged in connection to her case. and are awaiting trial. Their trials have been delayed several months, and likely will not begin until 2018.

Court documents state Sabrina Ray's adoptive parents were not home when she died. Instead, her adoptive grandmother and cousin were watching her and two other children. The two tried to revive Sabrina before calling police.
