KCRG-TV9 Meteorologist Chris Havely joined the KCRG-TV9 First Alert Storm Team in January 2015 as the weekend evening meteorologist.

Chris joined the KCRG-TV9 First Alert Storm Team in January of 2015. Prior to arriving in Iowa, Chris was the weekday morning meteorologist at WTVY-TV in Dothan, Alabama from 2013-2015. His past experience also includes filling in as a weekend weather forecaster at Indiana’s NewsCenter (WPTA, WISE) from 2010-2011.

In the winter of 2012, Chris received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Ball State University, in Meteorology and Climatology. During his time earning this degree, he participated extensively as a weather forecaster in the student produced newscast, NewsLink Indiana, which aired on WIPB-TV for several years. In the spring of 2012, the weather enthusiast participated in several storm chasing experiences in the Central Plains. After coming face to face, and actually enduring an EF2 tornado, Chris knows first-hand the dangers of severe weather.

Chris spent most of the schooling years of his life in Noblesville, Indiana, a suburb of Indianapolis. Prior to that, he lived in the city of Neenah, Wisconsin, where he became accustomed to the typical harsh winters that Iowans can experience from year to year. He was also a resident of the Twin Cities for a short stint.

When it comes to free time away from the camera, you’ll find Chris looking for a “pick-up” basketball game, leisurely traveling around the area, or taking a hike along the many state and area parks in eastern Iowa. His companion at home is a stow away from his time in Alabama. Peanut, his cat, managed to convince Chris to adopt her before his move north. He says she enjoys looking out the windows of his apartment, but it took her time getting used to seeing deer and rabbits, instead of lizards and giant bugs!

You can see Chris on the KCRG-TV9 News at 6 and 10 on Saturdays, as well as the News at 5:30 and 10 on Sundays.
