KCRG-TV9 Meteorologist Josh Baynes joined the TV9 First Alert Storm Team in September 2002. Prior to working at KCRG-TV9, Josh worked as a meteorologist for KPLC-TV in Lake Charles, LA.
Josh earned his B.S. in Meteorology at Iowa State University in May 2001 and while at ISU he worked at KCCI-TV in Des Moines, IA as a meteorology intern. He is a member of both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association and has been awarded Seals of Approval from both organizations for excellence in broadcast meteorology.
Moving back to Iowa from Louisiana was a move back home. Josh was born and raised in Corydon, a small town in south-central Iowa. He’s very happy to be back home forecasting Iowa’s challenging and versatile weather. Josh admits he misses a bowl of gumbo now and then from his Louisiana days, and oh yeah, warm winters!
Interests for Josh include playing guitar, cooking, occasionally exercising, and spending time with his wife Molly and their dogs Maggie and Brownie. Josh and his wife also foster a dog now and then from Last Hope Animal Rescue. Most recently Josh has been spending quite a bit of time on the farm learning the tricks of the trade in a series called Farmer Josh. See his latest adventure on the Farmer Josh webpage.
When asked about his favorite weather, Josh does enjoy tracking a supercell thunderstorm, but he’d take a day of sunshine and 72 anytime!
