Mike Wagner is the Managing Editor for KCRG-TV9 News. He made the move to management in the Cedar Rapids Newsroom after spending more than a decade working as KCRG-TV9’s Iowa City Newsroom reporter. During his time in the Iowa City Newsroom, Mike covered breaking news and events for our viewers in Johnson County. His assignments at KCRG-TV9 have taken him around Iowa as well as places such as the White House, Florida, California, Kuwait City, Guatemala and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Mike says he has worked with several talented photographers at KCRG-TV9. Together they have won reporting awards for spot news and feature reporting from the Associated Press and the Iowa Broadcast News Association.
KCRG-TV9 hired Mike in May of 1991 after he graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia’s School of Journalism.
In his spare time, Mike says he tries to find time for woodworking. During the summer he can often be found outside making ice cream with his hand-crank ice cream machine. He says his favorite flavor is vanilla.
Mike and his family enjoy living in Johnson County.
