KCRG-TV Newsroom Internships

Interns have been selected for 2009.
Interviews for 2010 will begin September 2009.

Gazette Communications is dedicated to shaping and building the next generation of journalists.  In this spirit, KCRG-TV9 hires college interns each semester to work in a broadcast environment.

KCRG-TV Interns will help write, edit, shoot video and produce news stories for air on all of the station’s newscasts.  The intern will also operate the Teleprompter and answer the phone.  The internship is structured with training and workshops but success and achievement are gained by self-motivation, flexibility and assertion.

Intern Selection Criteria:

The intern must be a Journalism or Communication arts major at an accredited college or university. The institution does not have to be located in Iowa.
The intern must have taken at least one/two basic broadcast writing classes and we would prefer, one legal and ethical issues or First Amendment Law class.
Third and fourth year students are given priority over first or second year students and experience with a college television/radio station and newspaper is preferred.
We will accept students who are taking this internship directly after graduation, ie; college credit to graduate.  We will not accept students who want to take our internship a year after graduation.
We select students who are pursuing a career in the television news business.

Requirements for Hire & Work Hours:

Selected interns will be required to pass a drug test and driving record examination before they are fully accepted into the internship program.
Interns will be paid to work a variety of newscasts, a variety of hours but limited to approximately 25 hours a week.  We accept excused absences for college tests and emergencies.  However, an unexcused absence or chronic lateness is unacceptable and subject to release from the internship.
Interns will be asked to attend an orientation session and adhere to start and stop dates issued shortly after official hiring.
College/University interviews take place each fall and candidates are selected before December 1st.
We select students who are pursuing a career in the television news business.
