Kenwood Elementary: Jamie is a wonderful teacher. She works very hard at teaching all her children. She cares about each child & parent she comes in contact with. Jamie currently teaches P-K and over the last couple of years the hearing impaired children attend her class all day as well. Jamie works hard to have all the children interact with one another and feel comfortable making friends. Jamie and staff in the classroom have worked very hard in teaching the other children sign language. This way they can communicate with the hearing impaired children. No child is treated differently by staff or other children. My daughter finds it exciting that she can communicate with her hands. She comes home every day learning a new word in sign language.
Jamie always makes it a point every morning to say "Hi" to every student or parent in the morning. She will always take the time out of her day to talk to you about a concern or problem your child has had. She has even called me at home, after I picked up my daughter from school one day. My daughter had a hard time with friends at school that day and she was really upset crying. Jamie talked to me for over a half an hour on the phone just concerned about how my daughter was feeling and if she was okay because her little heart was sad. I haven't come in contact with any other teachers that have done that before! Another example is when went on a field trip and a parent has forgotten the money they needed to get in. Jamie doesn't even hesitate she says "That's okay I brought extra." She is so friendly and kind to everyone. Jamie will go out of her way to have conversations with the other children that are not even in her classroom.
I am nominating Jamie because she is a very positive and upbeat teacher. I think everyone that knows her would agree with me! She works very hard teaching all her students academics, compassion and manners. Please consider her for this award it is well deserved!
