March 2013 Winner - Joan Donovan
Joan is an amazing teacher and person inside and out! As a young parent with a special needs child I wasn’t ready to let my son go to preschool! My feelings changed after meeting Joan. Every morning she is there to greet each and every child with a hello and question for them to answer begin the day. My child is unable to talk yet she makes sure he is included in the routine! If any child’s out sick it’s not an assistant in the room or the office calling to check on the child its Joan! If there’s something a family needs at home and are unable to afford it r find it Joan will go out of her way to get it even if it means giving out her own personal items to make others lives easier.
Our extremely shy, timid and very quiet 4 year old son, Maddux, started Pre-School this year. Since I am a stay at home mother, Maddux had never really been away from me too much. While I was excited for him to start school, I was nervous at the same time knowing how painfully shy he was. When I found out his teacher was Mrs. Donovan, I was BEYOND ecstatic! I had been hearing from parents to “keep my fingers crossed” that Maddux gets Mrs. Donovan. I didn't fully understand at the time just how lucky we were. Mrs. Donovan has done an AMAZING job with my son. The once shy, timid and quiet little boy that would hardly speak a word to anyone, is now outgoing and VERY talkative. (Sometimes talking too much!) Lol! He has grown more and learned more in the four short months that he has been in Mrs. Donovan's class, than I ever thought was possible. I remember on the very first day of class, Maddux wouldn't talk or even LOOK at Mrs. Donovan and she said, “You just wait, Maddux, I'm gonna have you running up and hugging me in no time.” And she was right! He cannot WAIT to get to school every morning! And Mrs. Donovan's classroom is packed FULL of students EVERY SINGLE MORNING, and not just from her class from this year, there are ALWAYS older kids in there that had her as their Pre-School teacher....just stopping by her room to tell her hello or give her a quick hug. Joan Donovan is kind, caring, sweet, nurturing, loving....everything that you could ever hope for or want in your child's teacher. She is never too busy to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. She goes above and BEYOND what’s expected of her. She truly is a blessing and the West Branch School District is EXTREMELY lucky to have a teacher like her!
