April 2013 Winner - Amy Grantz
After hearing about previous “A+ for Education” winners, we felt the need to express our feelings toward an outstanding teacher at Starmont High School. But first allow us to introduce ourselves: we are three high school sophomores who are actively involved in FFA and the agricultural program at Starmont.
Our nominee, Amy Grantz, is a very dedicated agricultural teacher and FFA Advisor. In any given week, she can easily be found spending numerous hours working to serve her students to the best of her ability. Mrs. Grantz demonstrates to us daily that she loves her job, and we can tell by her passion to make us more intelligent leaders. In a matter of minutes, we compiled an A-Z list of why we absolutely love Mrs. Grantz.
Adventurous-From Clear Lake, Iowa to Indianapolis, Indiana, she’s been everywhere with us.
Bold-She is never afraid to state her opinion to people.
Considerate-This FFA advisor always puts her students and co-workers before herself.
Dedicated- Mrs. Grantz is the definition of dedication.
Energetic-Even if one of her students is down, she always finds a way to lift them up.
Friendly-From restaurant management to advisors across the country, a friend is always nearby.
Generous-She is always willing to give up her personal time to improve her students’ education.
Huge Heart-For the past 4 years, all we have known is her huge heart.
Intelligent-The most we learn out of our entire day comes from the ag room.
Joyful-Every time we see her, there’s a smile on her face.
Keen-She is very eager to make the Starmont FFA Chapter stronger.
Loving-From her clown tape dispenser to livestock to her students, she cares for it all.
Motherly- Not only is she a teacher, she is a second mother to the students in our chapter.
Nonchalant-Even in the most stressful situations, she keeps her cool.
Optimistic-After things don’t necessarily go as planned, she finds a way to make the best of it.
Protective-She always has our back.
Quirky-Some of the most hilarious things we’ve heard have come from her classroom.
Reliable-Whenever one of us needs someone to talk to, she is always there.
Superb-Mrs. Grantz is the best of the best. We wish for her to be recognized.
Triumphant- For FFA contests, and life in general, she pushes us to be our best.
Unique-We have never once met, and never will meet, another role model like her.
Victorious-Not only do we think she is outstanding, The National Association of Agricultural Education, Inc. granted her with the “Teachers Turn the Key Award” this December.
Wonderful-She always has a positive outlook on life. In the 4 years we’ve known her, it’s rubbed off.
EXample-Mrs. Grantz is the kind of person that everyone looks up to and wishes to become.
Youthful-Being a young, newly married teacher, we know she will impact many people.
Zealous-She is the most enthusiastic person we have ever come across. Her passion for The National FFA Organization and Agricultural Education is something we can only hope for in our future ag teacher.
Unfortunately at the end of this school year, Mrs. Grantz will be leaving Starmont along with the many students and faculty she inspires everyday. As in the words of our Superintendent, Matt O’Loughlin,”Amy has many fine qualities, both as an educator and as a person. She has a kind and gentle nature, which serves her well as she interacts with students and other staff members. Her easy-going personality masks a determination and drive toward continual improvement in herself, in those around her, and in the school she serves.” (The National Association of Agricultural Educators, Inc., 2012). After all of those qualities are put together, a perfect individual is formed. To us Mrs. Grantz is perfect in every way, shape, and form. By receiving the “A+ for Education Award,” we believe her name would be spread throughout Eastern Iowa, which would result in her receiving an educational position where she can continue to impact the lives around her like she has for us. We feel that this award is the least we can do for everything she has done in our community. We would like to thank KCRG-TV9 for giving us this great opportunity to recognize our dedicated, outstanding teachers.
