9 Who Care - 2006-2007 Winners

Selected for outstanding volunteerism in 2006-2007, the “9 Who Care Jefferson Award” winners are:



These 9 volunteers were selected out of a field of 21 nominations received by KCRG during the month of November.  The panel of independent judges included: Tami Garvin, Public Relations Writer at Marketing & Communications Strategies, Inc.; Rhonda McCombs, Wells Fargo VP of Institutional Trust Services; Marlene Jessop, Events & Volunteer Coordinator for the African American Historical Museum and Ed Young, Jr., Development Director for the African American Historical Museum.

“9 Who Care” is a volunteer recognition program conducted each year, since 1990, by KCRG-TV9 and the Show You Care Sponsors.  The program was expanded in 2003 to include the nationally recognized Jefferson Awards and competition for the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award for Outstanding Public Service.  The 2006 program sponsors are KCRG-TV9 and Show You Care partners: St. Luke’s Hospital, Collins Community Credit Union, Cedar Rapids Toyota-Scion and Carlos O’Kelly’s Mexican Café.

Peter Teahen, Cedar Rapids - Peter represents the American Red Cross on a local, state and national level, responding to communities devastated by disaster.

Claude Brown, Hudson - A leader of distinction for the Boy Scouts of America, Claude is also a dedicated American Red Cross volunteer.

Roxann Dittmer, Cedar Rapids - A steadfast mentor and presenter for the "Children of Promise" program, Roxann believes in investing in our children.

Sue Frederick, Marion - A caring counselor, mentor and tutor, Sue is a friend to all at "AID to Women" in Cedar Rapids .
Shirley Geadelmann, Clarence - A voice for the elderly, Shirley lobbies for the rights of older Iowans.
Abby Martin, Marion - A student at Linn Mar High School , Abby is already a seasoned volunteer who has traveled to Africa on a church mission trip.
  Tom Neenan, Center Point - The volunteer Director of the Iowa Trails Council for 22 years, Tom can account for 10,000 acres put to public use across Iowa .

Grynneth Parizek, Lone Tree - A welcome friend to those in need it’s Mrs. "P" who is being recognized for her work at Camp Courageous of Iowa .

  Gale Pierce, Cedar Rapids - Gale instills life back into those who feel their lives are being taken away as he gives guidance to those losing their sight.
