Mark Carlson joined the KCRG-TV9 News team in October of 2010. He grew up in Geneva, Illinois where he was a three sport athlete at Geneva Community High School. Although he grew up in the Chicago area, Mark has a lot of family scattered across the state of Iowa, so Iowa is like a second home to him.
Mark graduated from Drake University in the spring of 2010. He originally went to Drake to be a football player, and quickly developed a love for journalism. He knew he wanted to work in television after he shadowed Brian Williams while interning with NBC Nightly News during the 2008 Iowa Caucuses.
His first job was with KCCI-TV in Des Moines, Iowa where he spent six months covering news in the central part of the state. Mark says he loves the news business because no two days are the same.
In his spare time he enjoys cheering on his beloved Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks. He also enjoys going for jogs, although he admits he often spends most of the time walking and looking at what is going on around him.
