Sarah McCarthy joined the KCRG-TV9 News Team in March of 2015 as a reporter. She made the jump to full-time reporter after spending a year and a half as an intern in the newsroom. During her time as an intern she covered multiple stories as a photographer and a reporter and appeared on-air weekly.
During her time at the University of Iowa, Sarah was a top-10 finalist in the prestigious William Randolph Hearst Foundation's 2014-2015 Journalism Award Program. Sarah also completed a semester-long political reporting program in Washington, DC. The program consisted of three journalistic and economic courses focused on political reporting and a four month internship at NBC News. During her time at the network Sarah worked side-by-side with election law experts tracking voting irregularities across the country.
“Each day I challenge myself to learn more, strengthen my skills, and share stories that matter,” Sarah says, “I love the adventures my job takes me on each and every day.”
Outside of work, Sarah also spends time mentoring journalism students at an Iowa City high school to help them improve their multimedia and writing skills.
