Dog owners and trainers from all over converged on the Hawkeye Wildlife Area in Johnson County earlier this month for the Hunt Test, sponsored by the Eastern Iowa Hunting Retriever Association.
The dogs at the event were not competing against each other as much as they were competing against the course, which involved retrieves and blind retrieves. They were judged on things like obedience, and ability to follow commands.
A four-year-old chocolate lab named Cane was one of the best dogs at the event. He was trained by Tory Topping of Cascade.
"It's a joy to watch, and the dogs have a great time doing it," Topping said. "You can see everything that you put into training, when you come to one of these events you can kind of watch that come together."
