Chase Through Linn, Iowa Counties Ends in Arrest

MARENGO, Iowa- A Cedar Rapids man is in jail after a Saturday morning chase.

Police tried to stop Steven Cooley near the intersection of 22nd Avenue and Wiley Boulevard SW at about 8:30 a.m. After running his plates, they found Cooley was driving a stolen vehicle.

Police chased him all the way to an area just west of Marengo. Sgt. Steven Yardley with the Cedar Rapids Police Department said speeds in that chase reached as high as 80-90 mph, but most of the chase was at a safe and below the limit speeds.

Authorities took Cooley into custody at the corner of U.S. Highway 6 and 160th St. at about 9 Saturday morning. Police arrested him on an outstanding warrant for parole violation in a burglary case. He also faces a variety of traffic violation charges including attempting to elude and suspended drivers license.

Cedar Rapids Police was aided by Iowa State Patrol and Iowa County Sheriff's Department.
